As a Comm 377 student, it was really thrilling to see the Arts and Sciences Showcase go from draft to execution—with flying colors I might add. To be an active part of the planning process was a worthwhile experience to apply what we had learned about event planning and publicity throughout the semester.
Before this event, it was rare to see an event in which two very different realms of the academic community would coincide to present any type of work or displays. This is the first event in my three years that I was able to see the two perceived different worlds come together to represent, tied together with both student and faculty end products.
In addition, students in these programs rarely have the opportunity to see the progress of their peers outside of the classes that they might not be a part of. I watched several students from the arts department become very engaged in the scientific showcases with fellow students, and saw many faces that said “Wow, this is impressive, I never knew this about so and so.”
What a positive event for the campus community, and at the end of the day (or morning) all of the planning details came together smoothly, and the work of the faculty, students, and planning committees paid off into an event that attracted much of the campus community at free period!

For the Arts and Sciences showcase, I boldly took the role of dressing up as the mascot throughout the entirety of the event.Aside from the job being extremely fun and entertaining for the event guests, the purpose of the mascot was to generate student interest in the showcase. By walking around the dining hall with two classmates, I caught the attention of students there and we got them excited about our event. By telling them about the awesome prizes they could win, or the free food and drinks that they would receive we managed to get students to come over to our event and check it out.
Aside from walking around the dining hall, my role as the mascot was to generate interest of students who were also roaming the hallways in front of our event. Because students in the halls saw the energy that the “mascot” and classmates were exerting, they ended up coming to check out our event as well.

The Arts and Sciences Showcase on April 16th turned out to be a success for both those who attended and those who participated in it. Our COMM 377 class was proud to be a part of the showcase and advertize and handle the details surrounding the event. Shopping at the bookstore for door prizes, setting up the campus lounge to look like a trade show, and handing out sparkly stickers to people who wanted to enter in the raffle was all part of the fun.
I was in charge of handing out stickers in front of the technology showcase display and I got a chance to see some students work and talk to them about it. Some of them made blogs for class and others did podcasts and different media projects.
Some of the girls from our class all bought the same shirt from the bookstore, when we supposed to be shopping for door prizes, and decided to wear them to the event. It ended up drawing some attention when we decided to take Anthony Valle, who was dressed up at the Fisher Cardinal, and parade around the dining hall to promote the showcase. Some people laughed at us but we knew a lot of them and had a good time doing it.
The people who came to the showcase were genuinely interested in the projects being displayed and there was a variety of people from professors and students to parents and other faculty. I think everyone involved enjoyed it and I hear they are planning on holding another Arts and Sciences Showcase again next year.

As a senior and commuter at Fisher, I have never really gotten involved with the community aspect of the campus. Being a part of COMM 377, the Arts and Science Showcase was my first real experience of getting involved and giving students some insight into what Fisher offers. Not only did I learn from the experience of planning, last minute deals, and working with my fellow classmates, it was a great way to meet a few new faces. I helped to set the event up, collect ballets from our raffle, and help assist other students and professors with their projects. A job well done to everyone!

The Arts and Sciences Showcase was an activity that brought people from many different areas of St. John Fisher together. Political Science, Chemistry, Theater, and Computer Tech were just a few subjects on display. I helped to prepare the venue by setting up chairs, hanging posters, and directing students and visitors on where to go. During the event, I greeted people at the door and explained how visitors could win prizes by visiting each booth. I also assisted the Cardinal mascot while walking around the cafeteria. We encouraged students to stop by after lunch. I feel the number of people who visited was a huge success. Next year, maybe an outdoor event could draw even more!

The arts and sciences fair was definitely a learning experience for COMM-377. Students and professors were given the chance to check out the work of their collegues. Engaging conversations were started at the stations and people seemed to leave satisfied. Everyone was proud of St. John Fisher and the work it's students and professors have produced.

The Showcase was a great opportunity for our class to experience what is takes to plan an event, which is an important aspect of public relations. It helped us to learn what is useful and what we can improve upon for the future. It was also a great way to show support for our school and program, by helping to show off the talents and recruit new ones
